Local students invited to NASA WEAR Challenge

A team from the local OH-131 Civil Air Patrol was invited to participate in the NASA Wearable Equipment for Averting Radiation Challenge at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va., in August.

The team includes John Anand, Brady Coffman and David Anand of Bath, as well as Kaz Kojima and Maxwell Siegfried. They will travel to the Langley Research Center with leaders Vijay and Ammu Anand of Bath to share their student-designed, wearable radiation countermeasures with NASA engineers and scientists while learning about the engineering process, participating in STEM engagement activities and touring the research center with other top design teams.

Through a competitive process, teams of students and educators submitted design proposals for wearable anti-radiation garments. Developing radiation countermeasures is an important step in NASA’s goal to return astronauts to the moon by 2024 and continue on to Mars.
