Mayor’s Corner
by Mayor Michael Wheeler
As summer gives way to fall, many residents continue to enjoy the trails and natural beauty of Eastwood Preserve. It is encouraging to see people taking advantage of this wonderful community resource. However, I would like to clarify an important rule regarding electric bicycles.
E-bikes are considered motorized vehicles, and motorized vehicles are prohibited at Eastwood Preserve. This restriction helps protect the trails and natural areas while providing a safe environment for walkers, runners, children and others using the preserve.
Recently, three young men riding e-bikes at Eastwood indicated that the mayor had given them permission to ride there. I do not recall granting that permission. If something I previously said was misunderstood, I apologize for any confusion. Nevertheless, I want to make the village’s policy clear: e-bikes and other motorized vehicles are not permitted within Eastwood Preserve.
This is not intended as criticism of an individual. Young people are welcome and encouraged to enjoy Eastwood, but everyone must follow the rules posted for the preserve. Parents can help by reminding their children where e-bikes may and may not be operated.
I would also like to remind everyone about Richfield’s Saturday, Oct. 31, Halloween festivities. Participants in the Halloween Parade should assemble on the Village Green at 5:30 p.m. The parade will step off at 5:45 p.m. and end at the fire station. The time for Community Trick-or-Treating is 6-8:30 p.m. Please watch carefully for children throughout the village and drive with extra caution.
Thank you for respecting our parks, public spaces and neighbors. Together, we can keep Richfield safe and enjoyable for everyone.
