Superintendent’s Corner – Dana Addis

In mid-March, the New Dimensions students at Hudson High School embarked on the annual New York City trip. For those not familiar, the course New Dimensions dates back 50 years and is an interdisciplinary team-taught humanities class. Students examine four core social studies units, each combined with a corresponding literature unit. The highlight of the year is the weeklong trip to the Big Apple.

While students and their teachers take in all the tourist sights during their adventure, including the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 Memorial and Central Park, perhaps none of it compares to the evening they spend with Hudson alumni who live and work in New York City. The alumni they meet there were once a part of New Dimensions and provide current students with a glimpse of life after Hudson High School. I’m told it is an evening to remember!

As a district, we know that connecting with our alumni is important – to them and to us. We like to welcome our alumni back to campus for events, such as the alumni tailgate during homecoming weekend in the fall. Our staff also enjoys reaching out to alumni who may want to speak with students about their professions during a career day visit.

Currently, the district and the Hudson City Schools Foundation are accepting nominations for alumni to be considered for the Distinguished Hall of Fame. Each year, the district alternates between honoring those in the Athletic Hall of Fame and the Distinguished Hall of Fame. We know we have many outstanding graduates throughout the world with an array of accomplishments. If you know someone who is deserving of a nomination, please submit their information at hudsonschoolsfoundation.com/hall-of-fame. Those selected will be honored in the fall during a Friday night football home game and the next morning with a breakfast and induction ceremony.

Finally, as we continue to update our database with alumni information, we ask that you take a moment to complete our new Alumni Google Form. You can find it on the homepage of the district website at hudson.k12.oh.us. We know life gets busy and it is easy to forget to update contact information along the way.

As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I can be found at addisd@hudson.k12.oh.us. ∞
