Superintendent’s Corner – Dana Addis

Now that it is the beginning of January 2024, talk seems to center around New Year’s Resolutions or goals for the future. Personally, that might mean hitting the gym on a more frequent basis or getting more organized at home.

At Hudson City Schools, our new “beginning” typically revolves around when students start the new school year in August. But we are hard at work year-round to keep the district running smoothly, as there are always new initiatives and projects to consider.

We have been hard at work on a new strategic plan, “Charting a Course for All Explorers,” for the past several months. Working in groups, we have identified goals, objectives and ways to measure our success in those areas.

Our first goal is to “Ensure Engaging Learning Experiences.” I talk about this with members of the community and my colleagues all the time. Hudson City Schools offers so many amazing opportunities for its students – many of which are not available in other districts. From Service Learning and New Dimensions to 29 career technical education offerings with the Six District Compact, we strive to provide our students with choices and opportunities to set them on a path for their individual successes.

The second goal in the new plan is to “Nurture Flourishing Learners.” This means providing a sense of belonging and supporting the well-being of all of our students.

Our third goal in the strategic plan is to “Recruit and Support Exceptional Staff,” followed by a fourth goal to “Enhance Vibrant Community Relationships.” While we have partnerships and procedures in place for both of these goals, we are always seeking to build and grow our efforts in these areas.

The final goal in our new plan is to “Uphold Operational Excellence.” We want to continually evaluate our spending and performance in various areas, such as transportation and nutrition services. Additionally, we want to create plans to develop, maintain and/or enhance our collaborative learning spaces.

It is important for us to never stop learning and growing. Our administrative team and board of education continually challenges itself with new efforts and initiatives. We are thankful for the community’s support and its dedication to education.

I plan to keep you updated as we move through the strategic plan and engage the community. As always, reach out if you have questions or comments at addisd@hudson.k12.oh.us. ∞
