PTAs honor outstanding volunteers

Allison McIntyre

Revere Council of PTAs selected Allison (Alli) McIntyre to receive its 2022-2023 Outstanding District Educator Award. Criteria for this award include making a positive impact on the lives of children, dedication to the mission and involvement and support of the PTA.

McIntyre brought Revere Roasters to Revere Middle School. The students in her classroom, who have multiple handicaps, deliver coffee, tea and hot chocolate orders to Revere buildings each month. This program teaches life skills such as customer service, filling orders, stocking and inventory control, and time and money management.

McIntyre’s next project includes creating a garden to teach her students how to grow and take vegetables, herbs, and flowers from seed to table.

Amy Furukawa

Revere Council of PTAs chose Amy Furukawa as its 2022-2023 Helping Hands Award recipient for her work on behalf of children. Furukawa has been actively involved in RHS PTSA for seven years, serving as the Reflections chair the entire time, vice president for two years, bylaws chair, a dedicated Krispy Kreme donut seller at football games, and helping with after prom for three years. She saved the PTSA senior citizen brunch from becoming a casualty of COVID and has headed it up for the past two years.

Furukawa also serves as the RHS cross-country team photographer and on the community outreach committee at her church. Furukawa was also chosen as the Outstanding District Educator for Region 5 PTA, which includes Akron, Barberton, Copley-Fairlawn, Green, Nordonia, Stow-Munroe Falls, Streetsboro, Tallmadge and Twinsburg school districts.

Individual school Helping Hands Award recipients are: Natalie Rainey and Brenda Sampson – Richfield Elementary School; Jennifer Kuzas and Marie Meixner – Bath Elementary School; Kathy Daetwyler – Revere Middle School; and John Leong – Revere High.

Other individual school PTA 2022-2023 Outstanding Educator Award recipients are: Valerie Patterson –Richfield Elementary School; Emily Sokolowski – Bath Elementary School; and Jeff Shane – Revere High School. ∞
