Revere topples Hawken, Benedictine on Academic Challenge

The Revere High team of junior Neal Pannala and seniors Philip Liu and Tate Johnson defeated Hawken and Benedictine on the Feb. 11 edition of Academic Challenge on WEWS News 5.

With 760 points, the Minutemen more than doubled the scores of their rivals. Hawken finished with 360 points and Benedictine had 340.  The three teams with the highest point totals for the season will compete in the championship round on May 27, with the top team winning a cash grant for its school.

Revere’s varsity Academic Challenge team also includes Andy Long, Saumya Mahajan, Noah Restivo and Katie Nowakowski. The Minutemen finished first in the fall division, tied with Copley for first place in the winter division of the Academic Challenge League and qualified for the Summit County regional tournament.

Johnson won Top Gun Award at the Kent State tournament and was the fourth highest scorer in the Summit County Academic Challenge League.
