School calendar for 2022-23 ready for approval

Dec. 14 board of education meeting

School calendars might be considered dull and repetitive documents by most people, but to the employees, students and parents in a school district, the formulation of the calendar is of prime interest.

Consequently, Revere Superintendent Michael Tefs appointed a committee to draft various versions of the 2022-23 school calendar. Revere’s 325 employees were shown all four then were polled on their preferences.

“We got feedback from all of our employees,’’ Tefs told the board of education. “About 60 percent of our employees chose the first option. … There was quite a gap: 60 percent to 21 percent [for the next most popular version.]’’

The board will not be asked to approve a 2022-23 calendar until January, but Tefs revealed his choice.

“We’re happy to recommend that [option one] this evening,’’ he said.

Under this version of the calendar, the first day of school for students will be Aug. 25, 2022. The last day of classes is scheduled for June 6, 2023. Students will be off for Labor Day (Sept. 5), NEOEA Day (Oct. 14), Martin Luther King Day (Jan. 16), President’s Day (Feb. 20) and Memorial Day (May 29).

Thanksgiving break will run from Nov. 24-28; Winter Break is scheduled for Dec. 31-Jan. 3; Spring Break will run from March 27-31.
