New owners have high hopes for Alpha Legends Gym and Fitness Center

After working out at Titans Gym in Twinsburg for years, Matt Motil, Drew Schafer and Mike Ely decided to parlay their extensive experience in gym/fitness center management into a new partnership.

The group recently bought the 30,000-square-foot Titans facility and opened under the new name of Alpha Legends Gym and Fitness Center at 10755 Ravenna Rd.

“When the previous owner this summer said he’d considering selling, I said we’re interested,” said Motil, who is the majority owner. “It seemed like a good opportunity. It’s probably one of the largest fitness facilities in the region, and from a business standpoint there were a lot of things that could have been going on there that weren’t.

“We’re going to have a kids club providing babysitting for people who want to work out. There’s also room for a smoothie bar. We’re redoing the bathroom facilities. This used to be one of the largest powerlifting gyms in Northeast Ohio. We’re just looking to bring all of that back.”

Alpha Legends Gym and Fitness Center, open 24 hours a day, will continue to offer weight loss, bodybuilding, cardio, crossfit, athlete training, yoga fitness, spinning, boxing and boot camp programming. Regarding the latter, Motil said the facility has a new a six-week challenge starting early in 2019.

“It’s a rolling group class that’s going to have built-in accountability with personal training and meal plans,” Motil said. “It’s like a turnkey program. When it comes to working out, being motivated and staying disciplined, you can only do so much on your own.

“When you have other people holding you accountable and helping you stay motivated, that’s when people actually get results. The whole idea is to help bring more people, and it’s the perfect time of the year to be doing it.”

In addition to expanding its yoga, spin and boxing options, Motil said the plan is to introduce martial arts in the near future.

“Right now, what we’re doing is actually polling the existing members to find out what they want that we don’t currently offer,” Motil said.

The fact that his business is located in Twinsburg isn’t lost on Motil, who said being in the community is a full-circle experience.

“My parents grew up in Twinsburg and met in high school,” Motil said. “We’ve always said that’s kind of where the family started. So for me to have an opportunity to kind of go back to where our family began, it’s a pretty cool experience for me.”
