Picnic hike: Aug. 4, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Furnace Run Metro Park / Brushwood Area, 4955 Townsend Rd., Richfield. Bring a sack lunch and beverage to enjoy during the hike.

Two-wheel interpretation: Aug. 7, 10-11:30 a.m. and 12-1:30 p.m. Bike & Hike Trail / Barlow lot, 331 Barlow Rd., Hudson. Join a naturalist on this casually paced (8-12 mph) 10.8-mile bike ride along the Bike & Hike Trail with a turnaround stop at Brandywine Falls. Bring your own bike. Helmets are required.

Creek walk for kids: Aug. 9, 1-2:30 p.m. Furnace Run Metro Park / Brushwood Area, 4955 Townsend Rd., Richfield. Kids and their adult companions search for insects, amphibians, fish and even fossils in the creek. Dress to get wet and wear closed-toe shoes.
Moths of many colors: Aug. 14, 9:30-11 p.m. Bath Nature Preserve, 3220 Ira Rd., Bath. Join a Summit Metro Parks naturalist and Dr. Lara Roketenetz from The University of Akron to explore the variety and beauty of local moths. Bring a flashlight and camera if you’d like to take photos. Meet at the Field Station, past the main parking lot off Ira Road and down the lane to the second house.

Try kayaking: Aug. 15, 10-11 a.m., 11 a.m.-12 p.m., 12-1 p.m. Munroe Falls Metro Park / Lake Area, 521 S. River Rd., Munroe Falls. Enjoy a relaxed session to experience kayaking and try maneuvering on the water. Minimum age is 13; ages 13 to 17 must be with an adult participant. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and be able to swim. Bring water, sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses and wear clothes that can get wet. Space is limited.
Hike for the health of it: Aug. 28, 1-2:30 p.m. O’Neil Woods Metro Park / Trail Lot, 2550 Martin Rd., Bath. Hike the challenging Deer Run Trail at a vigorous pace with few, if any, rest stops. Be prepared for a lot of stairs. Beginners are welcome but talk to your doctor before beginning a new exercise routine. ∞
