The Akron-Summit Council on Holocaust & Genocide Education will hold its annual Akron-Summit Holocaust Commemoration and Awards Ceremony on May 7 at the Akron-Summit County Public Main Library Auditorium at 6 p.m. Attendees will commemorate the Holocaust Day of Remembrance and celebrate the winners of the council’s annual writing contest. Jeannette Grunhaus de Gelman, a second generation Holocaust survivor, will discuss this year’s contest theme: “Lessons of the Holocaust: How Hatred Turns to Violence.” Winning pieces will be on display at the library through May 10. This event is free and open to the public. ∞
