Naturalist lead wildflower hike

The Friends of Richfield Heritage Preserve are sponsoring a guided hike on Saturday, May 11, from 1-3:30 p.m. at the park. Led by plant ecologist Jennifer Windus, president of the Ohio Invasive Plants Council and advisor to the Friends' Invasive Species Management Team, the woodland walk will feature her insights on protecting our park's native species and the importance of their role in the natural life of RHP. The loop trail hike will travel through one of the most scenic sections of the park. Participants will use the Oviatt Road park entrance.

Participants will meet shortly before 1 p.m. at the kiosk near Kirby’s Mill. While the event is free and open to the public, attendees are asked to RSVP via Eventbrite at 2024WildflowerHike.eventbrite.com. Walk-ins, however, are always welcome. Visit friendsofrhp.org for additional information and event updates.

Anytime wildflower hike

The Friends of Richfield Heritage Preserve are offering a do-it-yourself smart phone guided hike in the Richfield Heritage Preserve. The two-mile loop starts south of the Lodge and follows the Buckeye Trail through the park.

Jennifer Windus, retired ecologist from the Ohio Division of Natural Areas and Preserves, designed the hike. RHP’s spring ephemerals appear as the weather warms, but not all at once, so return often to catch successive displays.

Download the hiking guide at friendsofrhp.org to get the best view of the preserve’s spring ephemerals. Or, follow informative signs that the Friends will place at intervals along the trail. ∞
