Friends receive two historic preservation awards
The Ohio State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) announced that it has awarded two SHPO Preservation Merit Awards to the Friends of Richfield Heritage Preserve for restoration work at Richfield Heritage Preserve. The two awards recognize work on Amity House and Garfield Hall.
The Preservation Merit Awards recognize the Friends for their “outstanding achievement in helping to preserve Ohio’s historic places and their strong commitment to the state’s cultural heritage.”
Preservation projects must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties and contribute to preserving Ohio’s prehistory, history, architecture or culture.
Both projects were completed under the direction of the Richfield Joint Recreation District board and the park director. Local companies that donated time or services to the projects included Hinckley Roofing, Rocco Masonry, HTZ Design+Build, Rustic Slate Roofing and Shannon Electric.
Award recipients were chosen by a selection committee composed of members of the governor-appointed Ohio Historic Site Preservation Advisory Board and SHPO representatives.
The awards will be presented to the Friends on Nov. 6 at the Thomas C. Moyer Judicial Center in Columbus.
