Police Beat
June 27—Police responded to a Quarry Lane hotel to conduct a welfare check on a man stumbling around the parking lot. He had multiple warrants for his arrest and suspected heroin in his wallet. He was issued a criminal citation for attempted drug abuse and drug paraphernalia.
June 27—A vehicle was speeding on I-77N, at one point traveling more than 120 mph. Police eventually got the driver to pull over and arrested him for failure to comply with order and signal of police officer. A handgun and an alcoholic beverage were found in the vehicle. The man was charged with OVI and carrying concealed weapons.
June 29—A female with a history of trespassing was on the grounds of a Quarry Lane hotel under a tree. Police issued a citation for criminal trespass and dropped the woman off at a Greyhound bus station in Cleveland, which operates 24/7.
July 3—Officers conducted a traffic stop on Rockside Road and noticed the female passenger was nursing her baby. The male driver had a half-empty bottle of tequila tucked next to him. When asked for his identification, the driver gave a false name and Social Security number. He eventually gave his real information and had multiple warrants. He was cited for driving under suspension.
July 3—A male stole condoms and Aquaphor ointment from a Brecksville Road store and attempted to hide them in a suitcase. The store pressed charges for theft, and the man was trespassed from the store.
July 4—Police engaged in a pursuit on I-77S of a gas-powered scooter with no rear license plate traveling up to 60 mph and evading law enforcement. When the scooter operator attempted to drive through grass and gravel along a highway exit, he lost control and fell off the scooter. He had multiple felony warrants and was transported to the hospital for an unknown injury. He was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, alcohol or a combination of both. He did not have an answer for how he obtained the scooter and was to be indicted for failure to comply.
July 14—The manager of a bank on Rockside Woods Boulevard North loaned his employee a car to complete her work. The employee returned the car with damage to the front bumper and stated she did not know how it occurred. She was arrested for disorderly conduct when she yelled derogatory remarks at the manager, who stated she appeared to be under the influence. Since the incident causing the damage happened outside the city, police said the employees had to resolve it themselves.
July 17—A male under the I-77 overpass at Brookside Road and Eastview Drive was taping over street signs with cardboard. He would not identify himself to police or answer questions intelligibly. He was arrested for disorderly behavior, and during a search of his person, police found a pipe used for inhaling narcotics. He was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and taken to a hospital.
July 18—Police stopped a speeding vehicle on I-77N, which took unusually long to stop. The driver and passenger had difficulty answering simple questions. They said they had just gotten off work from a marijuana dispensary and were headed to Euclid, but the timing of the story was implausible. It was later learned the females had gotten off work at a strip club where they worked as dancers. The driver was charged with OVI.
July 20—A woman was issued a criminal summons for theft when she tried to steal $280 worth of merchandise from a Brecksville Road store.
July 20—A female paid for a few items at a Brecksville Road store but tried to steal $85 worth of other products. She was cited for theft and trespassed from the store.
July 27—Police were dispatched to a Quarry Lane hotel for report of a man in the parking lot yelling and making threats to guests. Just 20 minutes earlier, police had found the man sleeping in the mulch area of a Rockside Road restaurant. He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and used vulgar language towards the police. At the hotel, he was charged with disorderly conduct and trespassed from the property.
July 27—A car struck the back of a mini-van on Rockside Road and caused rear-end damage. The car had front-end damage and the driver had an open container of alcohol in her car. She was placed under arrest for OVI.
