A woman watching her son’s baseball game behind the town hall reported being attacked by a 10-month-old French bulldog. The dog’s leash was staked to the ground next to its owner’s chair. As the woman walked by, the dog lunged, pulled the stake and bit her on the calf. The owner told police the dog does not like tattoos that are visible on peoples’ legs. The owner was cited and issued a court date.
On Dewey Road, a resident found a pile of Amazon packages in the woods near his house. They were addressed to various homes in the area. The packages, which filled a trash bag, were placed in holding.
The manager of a local truck stop told police a man, who had been trespassed from the property, returned. The man gave officers a flimsy excuse for his reappearance and the manager filed charges for criminal trespass.
A fight was reported at a local grooming salon and pet cemetery. A dog groomer was attempting to collect his pay and tender his resignation. The salon owner’s ex-boyfriend instigated a heated argument with the groomer, which led to them demonstrating their pugilistic skills. The groomer was a better receiver than a giver, culminating with the ex biting his thumb, which bled profusely. The owner paid the groomer, but the ex wasn’t done. Pulling down the groomer’s pants he delivered a few more licks. Neither combatant chose to press charges.
A man went to the station to report comments made in front of his children. Their stepfather said of their father, “that guy needs a bullet in his head.” The man wanted the incident documented.
An officer pursued a vehicle on 77 NB at speeds of 110 in a 55mph construction zone. The driver made a last second exit at the turnpike to elude pursuit. No such luck. His next evasive maneuver caused him to hit a guardrail, disabling his vehicle. Realizing he was at a critical juncture in his life, the man flung open his door and flopped face down on the pavement.
Worth repeating: No legitimate business will ask you to pay a bill using gift cards. A resident is out $390 on a Spectrum Internet promotional scam. When in doubt, just say NO then call the Richfield Police.
Officers responded to a domestic complaint on Streetsboro Road. A man took his wife’s keys. She wanted them back. He yelled at her. An officer told him to return her keys. He did. They were both happy. They have been married 53 years.
On 77 NB, a cement truck drifted off the right side of the roadway. The driver over corrected, crossed the inside land and hit the concrete barrier. The truck rolled over whereupon the mixer drum broke free. It rolled over an unoccupied subcompact SUV parked in the median. The truck driver was transported to the hospital with potentially serious injuries. Time 9:00 a.m.
In one 30-minute period on I-77 SB there were three separate incidents of three cars involved in rear-end collisions. Following too close. Time 5:00 p.m.
On Roberts Drive, a resident complained that when she walks her dogs, her neighbor films them in case they venture onto his property. It was explained that the neighbor has the right to take pictures from his own property. The Richfield Animal Warden is communicating with both parties in hopes of reaching a civil understanding between the two.
An officer was dispatched to a boarding kennel on Brush Road where a man and his wife had a disagreement with her brother. She became upset and left the premises while the man continued to argue with his brother-in-law. When the situation escalated, the man left the office until his brother-in-law departed. At that point the man discovered a company phone and set of keys were missing. Police were unable to make contact with the brother-in-law. The next morning a bicyclist found the phone and keys on the berm of the road west of the property.
Meanwhile back at the motel:
A woman called to say her ex-boyfriend had stolen her silver Nissan Maxima and her black Harley Davidson from her home in Cleveland. She had moved out because she feared for her safety, citing domestic violence in the past. It was explained Cleveland Police would have to handle the vehicle thefts. An hour later she called back for help finding a caseworker because she did not have the money to stay another night. When officers again arrived on scene they found the staff would allow her to pay cash. They provided her with information for support services.
A man stated his wife and daughter were at the pool when a large bearded man started yelling at his daughter. His wife, unsure why, intervened. They had a short conversation:
Wife: “What’s going on?”
LBM: “It’s none of your damned business.”
Wife: “It is my business, that’s my child.”
LBM: “Well, control that damned child.”
She grabbed her belongings and her child and checked out. At home, she discovered she left her makeup bag containing her driver’s license and medication. They called the hotel, but a search for the bag was unproductive. An officer reviewed video footage, which was too grainy to be useful.
An officer responded to a report of possible human trafficking. The incident is under investigation. ∞
