May 6 special township trustee meeting

Sagamore Hills trustees approved hiring Terrence Wilson as a full-time police officer. He will earn $27.32 per hour and start May 19.

Police Chief David Hayes said Wilson was previously a police officer in Elyria and has been an officer for University Hospitals for the past two years. He went through the police academy with one of Sagamore’s officers and was under supervision of another Sagamore officer while they were both at UH.

“His resume was good and he has a great personality,” said Hayes. He added that in his 17 years as chief, Wilson is the first African American officer in the department.

The addition of Wilson brings the number of full time officers to 14. Hayes said the goal is to have 15 officers so there would be three officers per shift. “We will work on getting one more next year,” he said. ∞
