90-year celebration is May 18
To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Richfield Fire Department, a party will be held on Saturday, May 18. It will begin at 2 p.m. and at 2:30, the tradition of pushing a fire truck into its bay will take place, followed by Fire Chief George Seifert and former Fire Chief Phil McLean providing the history of the department.
Pushing the truck into its bay replicates the procedures of the 1800s when fire pumps were drawn by horses and needed to be disconnected and manually pushed backwards into their bays to be ready to reconnect for the next fire.
Guests will be able to see inside the new fire truck and view many old photos of the department.
Food trucks will arrive at 3 p.m. Kona Shaved Ice will serve slushies and Cheezylicious will offer variations of grilled cheese sandwiches.
Businesses have donated raffle items and a drawing will be held at 4:30 p.m., with proceeds going to the Richfield Firefighters Association. They will have free memorabilia gifts at the event and corn hole games will be set up.
The party will end at 5 p.m. ∞
