Mayor’s Corner by Mayor Michael Wheeler

Spring is here and so is tax time. As a reminder, individual municipal income tax filings are due Monday, April 15. Your estimated income taxes and/or extension of time to file, is also April 15.

The blood supply in the United States is running critically short. I am designating April as blood donation month in the Village of Richfield since March was Red Cross month, the perfect time for the American Red Cross to celebrate their wonderful volunteers who make their lifesaving mission possible. More than 265,000 individuals give their time to support the Red Cross, making up 90% of the Red Cross workforce. These remarkable people step up to help someone get the relief and care they need on what is often the worst day of their lives. So, please donate as often as you can and if you haven’t donated before, please consider donating in the future.

Community Project Pride Day and Arbor Day is Saturday April 20. Take pride in Richfield; adopt a street or neighborhood and pitch in to help clean up the roadways. Paper shredding and recycling of electronics and old clothing will be available from 9 a.m. to noon, behind Village Hall. Once again, we are giving out tree saplings (various varieties) located at the Village Hall pavilion. Safe drug disposal will be available, allowing residents to turn in unused or expired medications to the police department.
