April 8 solar eclipse celebrations abound

Residents of Northeast Ohio will be looking skyward on April 8, when a total solar eclipse passes over the area. Totality will begin at approximately 3:13 p.m.

Among a host of area events:

Broadview Heights residents and recreation center members are invited to watch the eclipse at the Broadview Heights Splash Park, 9543 Broadview Rd. Mayor Sam Alai and city employees will be there, from 2-4 p.m., for this celestial event.

Richfield United Church of Christ, 4340 W. Streetsboro Rd., will host a gathering at its new pavilion for the Guardians Opening Day and the eclipse, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. There will be eclipse glasses, music and a lot of free parking. There also will be hot dogs on the grill and other ballgame snacks to celebrate opening day. Bring a chair.

The Richfield Chamber of Commerce will be selling eclipse-themed apparel and hosting live music for a gathering on the Richfield Village Green, located at state Routes 303 and 176. Food will be made available by the owner of the Richfield Brewing Company.

The city of Brecksville will host an eclipse event at its Blossom Hill, located off Oakes Rd., from 1-4 p.m. There will be family fun, games, activities, food trucks and ISO 12312-2 certified glasses while supplies last..
