County tax, liquor permit on March ballot

by Laura Bednar

Cuyahoga County is proposing a tax renewal on the March 19 primary ballot for “supplementing general fund appropriations for health and human or social services,” according to ballot language. The 4.8-mill tax levy amounts to $131 for each $100,000 of the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Officer’s appraised value. It is estimated the levy will collect just over $137 million annually. If passed, the levy will be in place for eight years, commencing in 2024 with first collections due in 2025.

Independence residents will also vote on a local issue regarding Mexican restaurant Cozumel at 5555 Brecksville Rd. The restaurant is seeking voter approval for a permit to sell wine, mixed beverages and spirituous liquor at the restaurant on Sundays. ∞
