Kindergarten registration begins Feb. 1

Residents of the North Royalton City School District who have a child turning five years old prior to Aug. 1, 2024  are invited to register their child for kindergarten beginning Feb. 1.

For the 2024-25 school year, the district will be holding in-person registration at the Community Room. The dates for registration are Feb. 20-22.

On Feb. 20, registration will be held from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; on February 21-22, registration will be held from 7 a.m.-3 p.m.

There will be a special photo opportunity for the students at registration. The Community Room is located at the front of the high school, 14713 Ridge Rd.  A new component of the in-person registration requires parents and guardians to sign up for a specific time to bring all required documents to the in-person registration. There will be a link on the registration page of the district’s website to sign up for that appointment.

There are several components of the new online process that must be completed in order for children to register. Log onto the website, northroyaltonsd.org, for information and links to registration.

The district will be offering both the all day, every day option, which is tuition-based, and the half-day option. There was a change to the half-day program beginning with the 2023-24 school year. The choices for the half-day program are Monday-Friday 9-11:45  a.m. for the morning session and 12:45-3:30 p.m. for the afternoon session.

The decision to change to the morning every day/afternoon every day sessions was based on several factors, including the consistency of students attending each day, the availability of larger blocks of time for academic instruction and access to support and services on a daily basis.  Parents will be able to select a preference for morning or afternoon sessions. Finalization of the assignments will be provided to parents of the half-day program in early August.

The cost for the all day, every day option for the 2024-25 school year is $2,500. Should the number of all-day kindergarten registrations exceed the number of spots available, a lottery will be held. This will occur on March 29.  All registration components must be completed by the end of the business day on Friday, March 8 in order to be considered for the all-day, every day kindergarten.  Families not interested in the all-day, every day option will be enrolled in the half-day morning or afternoon sections.

Parents in the North Royalton City School District who are interested in learning more about early entrance to kindergarten, which is also considered grade acceleration, for their child should call the Office of Pupil Services at 440-582-9140 by April 5 for an explanation of the early entrance process.

A child may be considered for early entrance (grade acceleration) if the child’s fifth birthday falls between Aug. 1 and Dec. 31, 2024. The child must also meet district screening criteria in the areas of pre-academic, social and emotional development. This eligibility process for early entrance begins in May and is completed by mid-June.

Parents who have questions about this process should contact Julie Bogden, director of pupil services. ∞
