Mayor’s Corner by Mayor Michael Wheeler

Have a happy, safe and blessed Labor Day. If you are traveling, please drive defensively. Remember allowing a little more time to get home safely doesn’t hurt anyone.

I want to thank all who helped make the Community Day weekend a big success. We had a successful parade and after party in spite of the rain. More attended the steak fry and more families than ever at Community Day on Sunday.

Kudos to Meridian Sun Masonic Lodge for organizing the parade. The Swizzle Sticks Band once again did a great job with the entertainment. Thanks to Sons of Amvets and Meridian Sun for a fantastic steak fry. Special thanks to all those who helped make Community Day a big success especially to Ruth Josek and the Bath-Richfield Kiwanis Club as well as Laura Toth, the parks and recreation board and village police, fire and service personnel. This year’s fireworks were again outstanding, with the best finale I have ever seen.

Please welcome Robert Moderwell and Shane Williamson as our newest full-time police officers. Both come to us with excellent backgrounds and a world of experience. Also please welcome Emma Noffsinger as our newest part-time dispatcher.

The road construction should have completions dates as follows. State Route 21 at the I-77 bridge should be completed on or around September 22. The lowering of 303 should be completed by October 17.
