Athletic boosters donate to Caring Closet

The North Royalton Athletic Boosters started a fundraiser last year through Past President Kelly Tarnowski and continued through this fall with President Carla Humbel to raise money for the Caring Closet run by teacher Kriste Smith at North Royalton High School.

The Caring Closet is a special room in the high school that stocks clothing, shoes, food, toiletries, school supplies and other items for students in need. Students can discreetly pick up items they may need.

A check for $1,122 was presented to the Caring Closet on Dec. 5.  The money was raised by families and community members that put money into a jar at the athletic boosters stand during athletic events.

“I feel so fortunate that we have wonderful community members who support the Caring Closet,” Smith said. “We are able to help so many students with these donations.”

Those looking to donate to The Caring Closet can bring their donations to the high school. Items needed include toiletries, shoes, clothes, warm blankets, school supplies, packaged underwear and socks and boys’ button-down dress shirts. Laundry detergent (liquid or powdered only) is also appreciated. Cash and checks, made out to North Royalton High School with “The Caring Closet” written in the memo portion, are also accepted.
