Handyman Pro of Hudson opens for business

by Natalie Revesz

Knowing how difficult it can be to find the right person for a home repair job, Hudson resident Jessica Hiner decided to become a franchisee of Handyman Pro. The business, which opened its corporate office out of Hiner’s home in October 2021, offers interior and exterior services in painting, plumbing, wall repair, flooring and lighting, in addition to several others.

“I have to rely on my team. Hiring good people who know what they’re doing is really important for me.” Hiner said.

She hires individuals with a wide range of experience and those with specific specialties. Since its opening, Hiner’s staff has grown from two employees to nine due the demand for their services. In fact, the business is consistently booked three to four weeks in advance and continuing to hire more and more workers.

Hiner said the Handyman Pro franchise had the compelling idea that sparked her excitement about owning a business. After being involved in DIY projects around her home and with properties her husband and father-in-law had purchased, upgraded and rented for many years, she developed an interest in home repair and updating. Hiner recognized the difference between jobs that a homeowner could do themselves and those for which they need experienced hands. Handyman Pro aims to be a resource for those projects that require professional skills.

“I am the target market for Handyman Pro. … I would use the service,” Hiner said. “As a homeowner, as a mother, as a wife, I felt like there was always this never-ending list of repairs or things we wanted to do but either didn’t have the time or the expertise for.”

To Hiner, the distinction between Handyman Pro and other similar services is their level of customer service. They provide a free estimate to clients and value clear communication with them. Further, Hiner said that, “on those occasions where maybe something isn’t what a customer wants to see, we resolve it.”

“We want our customers to feel like they partnered with the right people,” she added.

Hiner’s experience in the corporate world prepared her for franchise ownership. She moved to Hudson in 2013, after working for Swagelok in Solon for eight years and Diebold Nixdorf in North Canton for 18, primarily in the realm of sales and marketing. She chose the Handyman Pro franchise when setting out to run her own business because of their extensive support network for franchisees and their “great vision for the future.”

Part of that vision includes a rebrand later this year from Handyman Pro’s umbrella company Premium Service Brands. The parent company owns 10 brands in home repair services, including their most recently acquired company Rooterman. They plan to turn Handyman Pro into franchises of House Doctors, one of their other acquisitions. Hiner is excited about the rebrand. Services will remain the same, she said, but the brand will have a new look.
