Two new Revere administrators meet the board

April 20 school board meeting

Revere Schools Superintendent Matt Montgomery introduced two new members of the administrative staff, Marcia Roach and Andrew Peltz, to the board of education.

During the meeting, the board ratified the hiring of Roach as curriculum coordinator, a newly created position made necessary by the retirements of Kathy Nolan, director of curriculum and instruction, and Judy Myers, human resources chief, at the conclusion of the school year.

Roach comes from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, where she was program manager/curriculum and instruction. Previously she was program coordinator in the Office of Field Services at Cleveland State University, advising teachers on lesson planning and lesson presentation for five years, beginning in 2014.

She spent six months in 2013 and 2014 as a tutor for students prepping for the ACT and SAT tests and taught high school English in the Berea school district from 2002-2013. Roach received a bachelor’s degree at Kent State and earned a master’s degree at Cleveland State. She received a two-year contract at Revere.

“She will really be helping teachers K-12 in all content areas, and that is no small feat,’’ Montgomery said.

Said Roach, “This is so exciting. My mom flew in from Florida for the first time since January 2020. She was here when I received the phone calI. It was just a wonderful celebration with my family.’’

Revere High Principal

Peltz will be the next principal at Revere High School beginning Aug. 1, following the retirement of Phil King. The board approved the hiring of Peltz at its March meeting, but Montgomery wanted to present him to board members.

“This district means a lot to me,’’ Peltz said. “I had the opportunity to start my administrative career here. It’s a dream for me to be able to return.’’

Peltz comes to Revere from the Avon Lake Schools, where he was principal at Troy Intermediate School.

 Calendar discussions

The board is seeking to end the current school year one week earlier than scheduled but needs the approval of the Revere Education Association.

Under the proposal, the last day for teachers would be June 1 rather than June 18. The work year would be shortened by five days, but teachers would be paid as per the original schedule.

The 2021-2022 schedule would begin earlier than originally scheduled, Aug. 24 instead of Aug. 26, but two additional professional development days will be added to the schedule. Teachers pay for 2021-22 would not be affected by the changes.

The full membership of the union will vote on the proposal.

Bath pavilion

Plans for the pavilion at Bath Elementary have been completed. The PTA is paying for the structure, and home builder Steve Moore has offered to do the construction. The pavilion will be used as an outdoor learning venue and provide space for a garden.

Collaboration

Bath science classes have a new resource: Dr. Lara Roketenetz, field station manager for the University of Akron’s facility at Bath Nature Preserve.

Third grade teachers will concentrate on biomimicry, fourth grade teachers will enlist Roketenetz’s help for fossil and animal adaptation study, and fifth grade teachers will focus on invasive species.

Donations

There were three contributions to the Lisa Sutton Loper Scholarship Fund: $180 from Lucy Loper, $500 from Chloe Bair and $200 from Protein Partner of Ohio LLC. ∞
