September marks the beginning of a new season in Brecksville. As summer came to a close, our community moved into fall with the return of school, Friday night football, community activities and beautiful opportunities to enjoy our parks and trails.

There is always something happening in Brecksville, and I am grateful for the residents, volunteers, organizations and city staff who help make our community such a wonderful place to live.

Remembering Sept. 11

Sept. 11 is a day that asks us to pause, remember and reflect. Many years later, the events of that day remain deeply etched in our nation’s history and in the hearts of those who lived through them.

On Sept. 11, 2001, our Brecksville community gathered on the square to honor the lives that were lost, the families who endured unimaginable loss and the first responders and everyday heroes who showed extraordinary courage in the face of tragedy.

The American Legion Honor Guard joined us for the ceremony and offered a 21-gun salute in tribute to those we lost. In that quiet moment, we were reminded of the strength, compassion and courage that emerged during one of our nation’s darkest days.

As we remember, may we never forget the lives behind the numbers: the fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, friends and neighbors whose absence continues to be felt. May we also remember the selflessness of those who ran toward danger to help others.

Thank you to everyone who gathered with us. It was a solemn reminder that while time moves forward, we must continue to remember, honor and never forget.

A Brecksville tradition

The Brecksville Firefighters Association hosted its 56th annual Clambake and Steak Roast on Sept. 12 at the Brecksville Horticulture Building. The evening brought residents together for great food, live music from local resident Moe Andrews, the Ohio State football game on the big screen, raffles, 50/50 drawings and door prizes. Beyond being a fun community gathering, the event supported the Firefighters Association’s scholarships, Safety Town and other local charitable efforts. Thank you to our firefighters, volunteers and everyone who supported this long-standing Brecksville tradition.

Fall activities ahead

Fall is a great time to get out and enjoy Brecksville. With school activities, youth sports, football and community events underway, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and enjoy the season. I encourage residents to take part in the many programs and activities happening throughout the fall. A safe start to the season

With the start of the school year and the change in seasons, it is important to keep safety in mind. Increased traffic, school activities, youth sports, pedestrians and cyclists require everyone to stay alert. Please follow posted speed limits, watch carefully for children and pedestrians and use caution in construction areas.

On behalf of the city administration and the Kingston family, I wish all of our students, teachers and families a successful school year and everyone a safe, healthy and enjoyable fall season.
