Residents asked to follow leaf pickup guidelines

by Melissa Martin

With Brecksville’s curbside leaf pickup program in full swing, the service department is asking residents to adhere to the following guidelines as crews make their rounds through Nov. 27.

Service Director Joe Kickel said crews initially pick up leaves on the north side of the city and work southward.

Residents are asked to rake their leaves into neat rows along the edge of the road, without placing the leaf piles in the street itself. All leaves must be located within 3 feet of the pavement edge and must not be placed in ditches or over loose/decorative stone.

Residents are asked to keep leaves out of storm drains and away from mailboxes and fire hydrants, and residents and their guests are strongly urged to refrain from parking on city streets, since it is impossible for workers to collect piled leaves near or beside parked cars.

No tree branches, bricks, lawn clippings or other debris should be mixed with leaves, and any leaf piles contaminated with such items will not be collected, Kickel said.

Property owners are responsible for leaf disposal after this year’s campaign is completed.
