Superintendent’s contract is updated
by Sheldon Ocker
In April, The Revere Board of Education showed its support for Superintendent Dan White by giving him a three-year contract extension that runs through July 31, 2030.
His current three-year deal expires on July 31, 2027, and included a starting salary of $170,000. He was eligible for annual raises of at least 2%, more if the board saw fit. His new contract calls for a starting salary of $185,223. Upon a “positive evaluation” by the board, White will receive a raise of 3% for the second year of the contract and 5% for the third year. The board has the authority to grant larger raises than specified.
As in White’s original contract, the district will pay for his contributions to the State Teachers Retirement System and provide him with a term life insurance policy equal to twice his current salary.
White will receive the same healthcare benefits as other administrative employees, including hospitalization, medical insurance, dental, vision and prescription drugs. White will have the same leave of absence rights as other district administrators, accumulate sick leave at the rate of 1¼ days per month, and he can take three “personal days” per year.
White’s new contract specifies vacation time of 30 days per year (five more than his current deal), and he needs board approval to take more than 10 days in a row, required under his current deal. He can carry up to 20 vacation days to the subsequent year, and he can take up to 10 vacation days in cash.
His cell phone allowance will continue to be $40 per month, and he will be reimbursed for business mileage, excluding mileage used to travel between his home and office.
The board will continue to provide White with an annuity equal to 3.5% of his salary.
The board will evaluate White’s performance in writing annually.
