Township website to undergo ADA-compliance updates

By April 2027, the Sagamore Hills Township website must be updated to align with Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility guidelines per the U.S. Department of Justice’s “Title II web and mobile application accessibility rule.”

According to ada.gov, “Public entities, or ‘state and local governments,’ offer many services on their websites and mobile applications. But these services are not always accessible to people with disabilities.”

The updates will include visual, audio and closed captioning changes, and the trustees unanimously approved the $7,100 cost to update. The website had 1,300 visitors in April from all over the world.

Around town

The township ordered a new ambulance in 2024. The box on the back of the vehicle needs repurposed and the township is awaiting a quote to proceed.

A new business in Sagamore Square, Mesa Buffet, is awaiting approval for a new floor and almost all applications are in for approval.

There have been complaints about long grass at township residences. The original deadline for long grass to be cut down was May 1, but the trustees agreed to extend the deadline to June 1 due to rain.

Sagamore resident Dale Wall commented during citizen’s forum that there should be a traffic light on Chaffee Road and Route 82. Trustees agreed to contact the Ohio Department of Transportation again to request a light there. The request has been denied in the past due to the traffic not warranting a light at the time of the request.

Resident Mike Cunnington mentioned there is a federal grant available for roads that are scenic byways and Chaffee Road could qualify as a scenic byway because of it proximity to the Cuyahoga Valley National park. The grant focuses on safety improvements, which could include a traffic light.

In the month of April, Macedonia Fire Station No. 1 received 162 EMS calls and 48 fire calls, Sagamore Station No. 2 received 89 EMS calls and 15 fire calls, and Northfield Center Station No. 3 received 66 EMS calls and nine fire calls.
