CVCC project underway to support Wreaths Across America
Cuyahoga Valley Career Center’s power equipment technology students and construction trades and education professions students are joining the effort to ensure that all veterans at Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery are honored.
From now until Nov. 29, power equipment students, with instructor Jerry Koenig leading the way, along with help from the construction trades program, instructed by Paul Yuravak, and the education professions program, instructed by Josephine Everhart, are using the opportunity as a service-learning project, setting a goal of gathering 1,000 wreath sponsorships as a way to honor the country’s fallen.
The National Wreaths Across America Day ceremony, held simultaneously across the country at more than 1,200 locations, will be on Saturday, Dec. 14. CVCC students will visit the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery to help what they hope will be the laying of 30,000 wreaths.
The goal is to place a live balsam fir wreath at the headstone of every veteran buried at the cemetery and spread patriotism and commemoration for the ultimate sacrifices they made.
A wreath sponsorship costs $15. Cuyahoga Valley Career Center’s online order group ID number is OH0125P.
