Leadership Hudson serves up March 2027 Restaurant Week

To help local eateries navigate the winter slump while fighting local food insecurity, the Leadership Hudson Class of 2026 is officially cooking up a new annual tradition: Hudson Restaurant Week.

Set to debut in March 2027, the multi-day event aims to drive foot traffic into local dining rooms during the slowest stretch of the year. Class members narrowed down roughly 40 initial concepts to land on the dining initiative.

“We started with about 40 ideas [and] we whittled that down,” explained class member Nathan Cook, noting the group intentionally sought a project with lasting community impact rather than a one-time event.

Cook and fellow class member Karen Downing said the Restaurant Week concept bridges two “community needs” uncovered during the cohort’s local site visits: support for small businesses during dreary winter months and aid to local families in need. Rather than asking restaurants to offer discounts, however, participating venues are encouraged to feature special menu items or signature dishes.

According to Downing, “a corollary with supporting restaurants is also the component of giving back.” Patrons will have voluntary opportunities to donate directly to the Hudson Food Pantry while dining out. For residents, Downing emphasized that the week “is about discovery,” encouraging neighbors to explore new culinary spots across the city.

Restaurant Week will be the newest brainchild of Leadership Hudson, a nine-month civic program designed to educate community members on local governance, schools and nonprofits. Participants meet monthly for themed sessions and field trips, culminating in a community project.

“The goal is to do something that’s going to benefit the community,” said Cook.

Hudson Farmers Market, Screen on the Green and State of Mind: Hudson are among past projects. The Class of 2025 is set to unveil a 20-foot-long “Hudson” landmark sign on Veteran’s Way this summer.

Cook expects major promotional efforts for Restaurant Week to launch in late September. To ensure the event endures beyond their cohort, he said the Class of 2026 is developing a long-term succession model to keep the tradition going.
