Preparing Your HVAC System for Fall and Winter
by Kevin Olecki, Owner & President, Broadview Heating, Air Conditioning & Electrical
As the seasons begin to change, it’s easy to focus on raking leaves, putting away patio furniture, and preparing our homes for colder weather. One task that often gets overlooked is making sure your heating system is ready for the demands of fall and winter.
As President and Owner of Broadview Heating and Air Conditioning, I’ve seen firsthand how a little preventative maintenance can save homeowners from unexpected breakdowns when temperatures drop. The last thing anyone wants is to wake up on a freezing morning to find their furnace isn’t working.
One of the best investments you can make is scheduling a professional heating system inspection before the cold weather arrives. During a maintenance visit, a qualified technician will inspect critical components, clean the system, check safety controls, test performance, and identify worn parts before they become costly repairs. Regular maintenance not only improves reliability but can also help your system operate more efficiently, reducing energy costs throughout the heating season.
Homeowners can also take a few simple steps on their own. Replace or clean your furnace filter every one to six months, depending on the type of filter and your household’s needs. A clean filter improves airflow, helps maintain indoor air quality, and reduces strain on your equipment. It’s also a good idea to test your thermostat, ensure all supply and return vents are unobstructed, and listen for any unusual noises when your heating system starts up for the season.
Fall is also an excellent time to consider upgrading an aging HVAC system. Today’s high-efficiency furnaces and smart thermostats provide greater comfort, lower utility bills, and improved temperature control. If your furnace is more than 15 years old or requires frequent repairs, it may be time to explore replacement options.
At Broadview Heating and Air Conditioning, we believe our job is more than repairing equipment – it’s helping families stay comfortable and safe throughout every season. A little preparation today can provide peace of mind all winter long.
Don’t wait until the first cold snap to discover there’s a problem. Preparing your HVAC system now will help ensure your home stays warm, comfortable, and energy-efficient when you need it most.
