A legacy worth building together

Exceptional schools do not happen by accident. They are built over generations through a shared commitment to students, dedicated educators, supportive families and a community that believes great schools are essential to a thriving city.

At Independence Local Schools, our strategic vision is: “Cultivating a Legacy of Excellence.” Legacy is about more than honoring our past; it is about the choices we make today that create opportunities for tomorrow’s students. Every decision we make is guided by one question: How do we leave our schools stronger than we found them?

Public education continues to face significant challenges. Funding remains uncertain, state mandates continue to increase and schools are expected to do more than ever before. Despite these challenges, our commitment remains unchanged: to provide every student with an exceptional educational experience while being responsible stewards of the resources entrusted to us.

We cannot accomplish that mission alone. Great schools are the result of strong partnerships. Families, businesses, alumni, civic leaders, volunteers and residents all play an important role in the success of our students. Your ideas, your involvement, your advocacy and your belief in our schools matter. Together, we create opportunities that no school district could provide on its own.

As we look ahead, we will continue making thoughtful decisions with students at the center. We need our community’s partnership, perspective and support as we work together to preserve what makes Independence special while building an even stronger future.
