Sept. 19 panel to address stigma surrounding substance use disorder

Hudson Community Foundation will host a live panel discussion titled “Breaking the Silence: Reducing the Stigma of Substance Use Disorder and Accessing Resources,” on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 3-4 p.m., at Barlow Community Center, 41 S. Oviatt St. The discussion also will be livestreamed on HCF’s Facebook page, facebook.com/myHCF.

The event aims to address the pervasive stigma surrounding substance use disorder and highlight critical resources available for those affected by addiction. It brings together two specialists and deeply personal voices in the field:

Dr. Nicole Labor is the medical director at OneEighty, a treatment center that offers inpatient and outpatient chemical dependency and behavioral health services in Wooster. She will share insight on effective treatment approaches and the importance of community support in overcoming substance use disorders.

Joe Brady, who tragically lost his daughter Brianna to an accidental opioid overdose, will provide an important perspective on the impact of opioid use disorder from a family member’s viewpoint. Brady’s story underscores the urgency of addressing substance use disorder and the importance of support systems for families navigating these challenges.

The panel will be moderated by Hudson Community Foundation President Amy Jordan. It is free and open to the public. Livestream viewers can call 234-380-6411 with questions for the panelists. For more information, visit myhcf.org or contact Amy Jordan at amyjordan@myhcf.org. ∞
