Police Beat
A Ridgeview Road resident stated that two weeks earlier a wake of buzzards and the strong odor of decaying flesh led him to a deer carcass in a high state of putrefaction. Later, the smell intensified and he discovered a second deer carcass with a bullet hole in its side. He suspected poaching. The local wildlife officer for the ODNR was contacted.
An officer observed a Ford Super Duty truck, pulling a trailer loaded with heavy equipment, exit a truck stop onto Columbia Road. Turning left at an unsafe speed caused the load to shift and the trailer to tip over. The leaking diesel fuel ignited. Richfield and Brecksville fire departments responded. The driver was cited. World Towing cleaned up the mess.
On Everett Road, as dark approached, a resident observed a man wearing a headlamp in the tree line of his property. When approached, the male stated he was picking berries for wine. He left without incident. The license plate on the man’s Chevrolet Spark returned to an address in New Kensington PA.
A resident on Brecksville Road reported someone stole his Harris/Walz campaign sign. He believed it was “Trumpers” who committed the theft.
At a dog boarding facility on Brush Road, a customer discovered the door locked and observed a couple inside arguing and gesticulating wildly. As the woman exited the building, she told the customer she needed police assistance. As she continued up the driveway, her verbal combatant was in hot pursuit. She advised officers she wanted the man to leave for the day.
On Kinross Lake Boulevard, a man parked with his van doors open and played music so loud it disturbed warehouse employees 100 yards distant. Responding officers immediately recognized the suspect from repeated encounters. The man became irate, as usual, when informed of the complaint. The Akron prosecutor’s office is investigating ongoing reports of the man’s general nuisance conduct.
On St. Nicholas Drive, an argument ensued when the homeowner berated the male resident for not cleaning the house to her liking. Both parties eventually agreed the man needed to temporarily vacate the premises.
Failure to appear in Richfield Mayor’s Court seems to be a somewhat common occurrence. When located, these recalcitrants are issued an additional ticket and a new court date.
A motorist reported a Nissan SUV was weaving on I-271 southbound. It failed to stop with an officer in pursuit. Signaling right, while veering left off the pavement, the driver finally came to a stop in the left lane. Back at the station he blew a .139% BAC. His license was suspended and he was released to his mother. Time 1:57 a.m.
A routine check on a Chevrolet SUV revealed an active warrant issued by the Pasco County Sheriff’s office in Florida. It must have been serious. The PCSO requested she be held while they arranged for extradition back to Florida.
At a local liquor store, a lone employee was waiting on other customers when two men entered. They made multiple trips in and out of the store, as the employee was reluctant to confront them. After they left, video surveillance confirmed they stole 35 bottles of liquor valued at over $1,900. Time 10:30 p.m.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. a motorist reported following a potentially intoxicated driver going westbound on Wheatley Road, near Revere Road. Upon apprehension, the driver said he was coming from Blossom. The field sobriety tests didn’t go well. He was placed under arrest and he refused a breath test, whereupon his license was suspended. He was released to a sober adult.
At approximately 11:40 p.m. a motorist reported following a potentially intoxicated driver westbound on Wheatley Road, near Revere Road. Upon apprehension, the driver said she was coming from Blossom. The field sobriety test did not go well. She was placed under arrest and blew a .15% BAC. She was cited for OVI and released to a sober adult.
An officer was exiting Richfield Woods when a Ford SUV passed him traveling north in the southbound lane of Broadview Road. The vehicle was finally stopped past Alger Road. Through slurred, almost incoherent speech, the drive shared a range of sentiments. “I have my rights.” “You want to fight me?” “If you force me off this ground you are refusing me medical attention.” He continued: “My head hurts;” “I have chest pains;” “I have multiple sclerosis, so touch me again A**hole, touch me again.” The field sobriety tests were a challenge. At the station, he shouted, “Medical, medical,” stating he had chest pains. After arguing with fire personnel, he advised them he did not actually have chest pains. He was transported to Metro Brecksville Hospital. This was his fourth DUI in less than two years. Time 1:26 a.m.
Meanwhile, back at the motel A couple had to change rooms because of a water leak. The female resident forgot she stashed $100 under a lamp on the refrigerator. When she returned to retrieve the money, it was gone. A housekeeper stated he did not notice a lamp on the fridge. The front desk employee stated he would deduct $100 from their next monthly payment.
