BBA awards $2,000 scholarship to St. Vincent-St. Mary graduate
The scholarship committee of the Bath Business Association selected Mia McCartney-Ross, a 2024 graduate of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School and a Bath resident, as this year’s recipient of a $2,000 scholarship.
The scholarship was presented to McCartney-Ross at an awards ceremony in late May at the high school by Bill Snow, BBA scholarship chair. McCartney-Ross, who is planning to attend The Ohio State University to double major in journalism and business, was one of 26 applicants for the annual BBA scholarship. Criteria for the award included scholarship, extracurricular activities, Bath residency and plans to focus further educational efforts in a business-related field.
“It was a difficult choice because of the number of applicants,” said Snow, adding “we have very talented young people in our community. Mia went a step beyond in her application. She ‘checked all the boxes’ and more than fulfilled the criteria we set out for our applicants.”
The five BBA committee members selected McCartney-Ross because of the collective picture she presented of academic achievement, extracurricular, sports and volunteer activities, including more than 200 service hours.
McCartney-Ross attended the June BBA meeting with several family members. Snow encouraged McCartney-Ross to “remember us here,” when congratulating her. “You are our future,” he said.
Proceeds from the annual Bath Community Garage Sale, sponsored by the BBA, help fund the scholarship, which has been available to a graduating high school senior since 2015. This year’s garage sale in early June tallied nearly 80 participants.
“I’m glad the success of this year’s garage sale will help us continue the advancement of our young people and the Bath community,” said BBA President Jim Warzlow. “This is one of many ways the BBA gives back to the community where we live, work and play.”
