Revere notes

Six Revere High students excelled in the annual Business Competition, where students brainstorm a product, design it, manufacture it, then market it.

The Revere students earned $10,000 worth of scholarship money for their achievements. The six: Ally Meixner, Emily Garlesky, Jessica Yi, Ria Mahapatra, Sage Owens and Aiden Zapisek.

Revere Middle School student Ali Schimmoeller was recognized by the board of education.

“I have witnessed firsthand how she comes up with creative solutions to problems,” said Theresa Whyte, her teacher, adding, “In groups and in individual work, she is a leader.”

Middle-schooler Carter Moss also was recognized.

“I am always impressed with his effort and attitude and his willingness to figure out an answer even if he doesn’t know it immediately,” said teacher Elizabeth Hamilton.

Bath Elementary students Ashton Daniel and Austin Allard were recognized as Bath Team Heroes for creating a device that helps fellow students see birds and other wildlife on school grounds. “It’s being used all the time,” said Principal Dan Fry.

Richfield Elementary Principal Anthony Stretar presented to the board of education three students recognized for their character, discipline and work habits.

Of Maryann Lee, kindergarten teacher Suzanne Pearcy, said, “There are many reasons Maryann deserves this award, but I want to talk about her willingness to take risks.” Pearcy was referring to the way Maryann has learned to become a more effective reader.

Of Nathan Ihasz, Stretar said, “He makes Richfield Elementary School a better place to be, and his hard work is a shining example to all his classmates.”

 Cooper Bechtel was cited for his candor and leadership.

“Recently, Cooper stopped me in the hall and said, ‘We haven’t gotten together in awhile,’” Stretar said, explaining to the second-grader that he’d been very busy.

“I’ll never forget what Cooper did then,” Stretar said. “He put his arms out and said, ‘I’m only here for 20 more days.’ I want to thank Cooper for reminding me what the most important part of my job is.”

Track and field athlete Andrew Farrow is a regional qualifier after jumping 21 feet 11.75 inches in the long jump. His jump is a new school record, breaking the previous one set in 1965.

The girls track and field team was named Suburban League American Conference Champions.

The Revere High School and Middle School chess teams each took second place at the Ohio State High School/Middle School Chess Championship Tournament.

Revere’s boys tennis team claimed the title of 2023 Suburban League Tennis Champions. ∞
