City Manager’s Desk

by Thomas Sheridan

Spring is in the air, and the city is moving ahead on several key projects and initiatives. We are investing $20 million over five years (2021-2025) in our sidewalks and trails to connect neighborhoods and the downtown. This year, we will begin working on sidewalks on Middleton Road from Valley View Road to High Point Park at I-480, on SR 303 from Hayden Parkway to Stone Road at the Streetsboro corporate limit, and along Stow Road from Hudson Springs Park to SR 303 and from Chamberlin Boulevard to Middleton Road. The construction of Veterans Trail Phase 3 will be completed this year from Cascade Park to Ellsworth Meadows Golf Club on Barlow Road.

In addition to sidewalks and trails, we are also working on council initiatives, including a project to get high-speed internet fiber to our residents over the next three to four years. Currently, we are in negotiations to make this project a reality. The company selected would expand out from our existing Velocity Broadband fiber network, and they would maintain and operate the internet service.

We are also exploring the council initiative of expanding our utilities to areas currently underdeveloped. One project includes expanding our water system to some neighborhoods. This year, a subcommittee is reviewing where the expansions would be viable, how we would expand our service, the cost of the water extensions, and how it could be funded. We hope to have more news about this in the coming months.

The city has been performing pedestrian safety studies and will be adding flashing school zone signals at multiple crosswalks near the Hudson schools to increase safety and visibility for students.

The most visible project for 2023 will be the Ohio Department of Transportation Culvert Replacement Project that will impact traffic on SR 91 by Yours Truly Restaurant this summer for approximately three weeks. Be sure to sign up for Hudson’s E-News emails at hudson.oh.us/e-news to receive alerts when traffic will be impacted by this project and other road construction projects throughout the year.

I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable spring! ∞
