Gymnasts win title 20 years in a row

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights gymnastics team won the OHSAA state championship in Columbus for the 20th consecutive year March 4, with a total score of 148.825, besting Olentangy Berlin High School by less than a full point.

The Bees’ 20-year state championship winning streak holds the record as the longest in the nation’s history.

The Bees were boosted by an event-best score of 37.850 on the vault, turned in by Gianni Ravagnani (9.725), Rachel Kelly (9.550), Emily Gromek (9.450) and Ella Shaheen (9.125).

Ravagnani also won the individual vault competition. She outpaced her team score with a 9.850.

While Tessa Brousek didn’t win any of the four specialty events, her three seconds and a third were more than good enough to give her the all-around championship title with a score of 38.500. According to the high school’s athletic department, Brousek’s is the second-highest score in the school’s all-around history. ∞
