Dragons win 7-A-side state championship

The Brecksville Dragons Rugby Club won the Rugby Ohio 7-A-side state championship in Columbus Oct. 30.

Coach Christopher Watkins said the team won the Shield Competition.

Watkins also noted that on the way to winning the state championship, the Brecksville team defeated teams from Shaker Heights High School and John Marshall High School, before winning 22-12 against Massillon Perry. Throughout the season, the team also defeated Amherst and Toledo, while putting up good displays against teams from Perrysburg, Mentor and Cincinnati. 

In the final. Brianna Dzina and Amy Coyer-Westerberg were named joint Players of the Match. ∞
