Police Beat

Traveling south on I-77 near the turnpike, a motorcyclist eluded police by crossing the median and continuing south in the northbound lanes. The officer discontinued pursuit as several cars went into the median to avoid a collision and 911 calls flooded dispatch. The cyclist was next spotted on I-271 north using the Richfield exit. Heading south on Brecksville Road he ignored a red light at Wheatley Road and T-boned a pick-up truck. Charges would be filed once he regained consciousness. EMS transport time, 8 p.m.

Two more catalytic converters were stolen in the vicinity of Highlander Parkway.

A Maple Drive resident filed a complaint that her neighbor encroaches her property by one foot each time he mows his lawn. This has been going on since last year and she wants it to stop.

A man reported three front loader buckets missing from a rental storage lot. Each weighed in excess of 1,500 pounds.

At least four residents reported mailbox damage by vehicles.

Officers encountered a man slumped over the wheel of his car just south of a bar on Brecksville Road. Banging on the windows failed to elicit a response, so one officer used a lock-out kit to gain entry and turn off the engine. Shaking the occupant accomplished nothing but a hard sternum rub caused him to slightly raise his head. He acknowledged having two Miller Lites and blew an impressive .251 on the Breathalyzer. He was given a mandatory date for Richfield Mayors Court. Time 2 a.m.

Two different people reported that checks they had mailed had been stolen and the names and amounts altered before being cashed.

Police agreed to transport an irritated, agitated, intoxicated man to a friend’s house in Lakewood. He demonstrated his appreciation by urinating in the back of the cruiser.

Meanwhile back at the motel:

A motel owner called to say a patron was in the parking lot using bad language and he wanted him removed.

A fight broke out in the pool between two groups of people over a beach ball. Video footage recorded punches being thrown, people getting kicked and a man brandishing a pistol. Arrests were made, charges were filed. Time 9:30 p.m.

An employee was physically assaulted after refusing to give a patron a mop. The employee intended to file charges as soon as he was released from the hospital.

A man checked into the hotel and immediately started arguing with the manager. The encounter almost became physical but no guns were involved. ∞
