It’s not time for electric vehicles just yet

To the Editor:

In response to the article in the BroadView Journal for August 2022, Vol. 33 No. 8. Electric vehicle charging station coming to city hall:

Taxpayers’ money should not be used for the charging stations. All costs should be paid by users. Mayor Sam Alai said, “The future is here, there’s no doubt.”

Mr. Mayor, you are wrong. Electric vehicles are not cost effective yet. Electric vehicles did not survive in 1890 when they were first introduced and they are not going to make it now. Start with a few charging stations and see how they work out. The power grid is not ready for electric vehicles. A gradual transition is sensible. Fossil fuels are not the future but are currently working. Taxpayers should come before the whims of green radicals. ∞
