Students in the News

Independence native Samuel Belitz was initiated into the Grove City College Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. Students initiated into the society must be in the top 35% of their class, demonstrate leadership experience and embrace the ODK ideals.

Independence High School athletes Abby Avila and Kyle Zygmunt won the 2022 Chagrin Valley Conference Sportsmanship award. Abby is a member of the volleyball team and Kyle plays football, basketball and runs track.

The following Independence High School students were inducted into the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center’s National Technical Honor Society: Vincent Kubicki, junior, construction trades; Alexandra Leffler, junior, dental assisting; John Burmeister, junior, electrical systems; and Andrew Marcinko, junior, media arts. NTHS honors career-technical high school students who excel in scholarship, leadership, service and character.

Membership is determined by a student’s scholastic achievement, attendance, deportment, participation in career-technical student organizations and teacher recommendations.

The IHS Girls Track team won the 65th Annual Cuyahoga Heights Relays and the Boys Track team finished in second place. ∞
