Greene Acres launches 2022 raffle

As part of its 2022 fundraiser, the nonprofit Greene Acres Community Garden Inc. will be raffling off three prize packages that will delight backyard chefs from Parma to Peninsula and all points beyond.

The Grand Prize, valued at more than $400, includes a Char-Broil Performance Silver 5-burner gas grill with nearly 650 square-inches of cooking space on porcelain coated cast-iron grates, a 10,000-BTU side burner and electronic ignition among other features. Weber premium accessories include a three-piece tool set, basting brush and grill brush.

First prize, worth $350, features a Masterbuilt 30-inch digital electric smoker with more than 700 square-inches of smoking space and thermostat temperature control for consistent results. The package also includes a Nexgrill 8-piece stainless steel tool set and a bag of Kingsford cherry woodchips.

Second Prize, valued at $225, includes a Dyna-Glo 3-burner propane gas grill with nearly 470 square-inches of combined grilling space and a SearPLUS sear burner. A Nexgrill 8-piece stainless steel tool set is also included.

Gift certificates from Lang’s Butcher Block, 12931 State Road, or Happy Cows Group Share LLC, 7529 Broadview Road, will round out the packages.

“Whether your crowd is full of carnivores, vegans, or both, any of these prizes will make you the star of the backyard barbecue,” said Greene Acres President Erin Nowjack. “Irresistible grilled pizzas, juicy steaks and chops, even whole smoked cabbage heads, will tempt your family and guests.”

Tickets are $5 each or five for $20 and will be on sale through Saturday, July 9. The drawing will be held Saturday, July 16 at noon at the garden, 3800 Towpath Rd. in Broadview Heights. Winners need not be present. Sales are cash or check only, made payable to Greene Acres. To buy tickets or make a monetary donation to the nonprofit corporation, email the garden at greeneacresweb@gmail.com.

In addition to supporting ongoing maintenance and supplies, proceeds from the raffle will fund the garden’s fence gate rebuilding and grading project scheduled for this 2022.

Launched in 2013, Greene Acres Community Garden Inc. is an organic operation that includes more than 90 plots and 70 gardening members. In addition, the 14,400-square-foot green space features an education plot, rain barrel, composting bins, and standing plots for members with limited mobility. There are also several active bee boxes just to the rear of the garden, which are tended by Revere Honey and Rüdiger Farms. The busy hives have yielded hundreds of pounds of honey.

Each year, Greene Acres gardeners donate their fresh produce to area foodbanks. Over the past two years, those donations reached 1,000 pounds. For more information, find us on Facebook at @greeneacresCG. ∞
