Rethinking with ReWorks – ReWorks’ document shredding and recycling program

In July, our Document Shredding and Recycling Event is scheduled for Saturday, July 9, at Longwood Park, which is located at 1566 East Aurora Road in Macedonia.

This service is open to both residents and businesses of Summit County. ReWorks offers this Document Shredding and Recycling Event at multiple locations throughout the county and Summit County residents, or businesses can attend ANY of the Document Shredding and Recycling Events.

Reminders for these events:

1. ReWorks’ events are for Summit County residents and businesses only.

2. There is a limit of 10 file boxes or shopping bags per resident/ business.

3. Paper bags are preferred over plastic.

4. Remove all metal clips, rubber bands and plastic report covers.

5. Staples are OK.

Place all your documents to shred in the trunk of your vehicle or the back of your truck’s bed. Also, be sure to not have any personal items by your documents. Since these events are well attended, having your documents prepared this way will help keep the process moving smoothly and save time.

Speaking of time, our Document Shredding and Recycling Events are often busiest in the first hour. If you come to the event a little later in the morning (i.e. after 10 or 10:15 am), there will still be time to provide this service to you.

Keep in mind, shredded paper does not go into home recycling carts. Shredded paper collected in home recycling carts gets processed at a material recovery facility (MRF) where it is too small to be sorted by MRF equipment and it sticks to other recyclables causing contamination. The shredded paper, from the Reworks- funded Document Shredding and Recycling Events, is recycled through a different process that can handle shredded paper.

People often ask us, “Do you shred the documents on-site?” The answer is yes, the documents are shredded on site. At each event, there are large trucks that are built with shredding mechanisms. As the crew unloads the vehicles, documents are placed into rolling carts and the carts are emptied into the shredding truck. These events shred over 25,000 pounds of documents.
