Council appoints Jeff Anzevino as new mayor

Hudson City Council anointed resident Jeff Anzevino as the 57th Mayor of Hudson in a special meeting. Anzevino replaces Craig Shubert, who resigned on Feb. 14, following his council meeting comments on ice shanties that went viral.
Anzevino’s term will run until November, at which time voters will have the chance to elect a mayor to fulfill the remainder of Shubert’s term that expires in December 2023.
Anzevino was not present at the meeting, which included a vote by the full council. He won the position with a 5 -2, with council members Kate Schlademan and Nicole Kowalski voting against his appointment.
According to council President Chris Foster, who put forth Anzevino as the top candidate for the mayoral appointment, “I feel Jeff Anzevino is the most qualified candidate for the job.”
Kowalski said she could not vote for Anzevino because she “felt the interview process was flawed.” She argued that each of the applicants should have been interviewed while only nine of the 15 were.
Schlademan conferred, stating her “no” vote was not in reference to Anzevino’s qualifications but that she didn’t feel her voice was heard during the voting process.
Council member Skylar Sutton said “from someone who does hiring in his day job, I believe the process was fair.”
Anzevino was among 15 applicants for the job, including former Hudson Mayor David Basil. According to Anzevino’s Linkedin profile, he is president of Jitoce LLC and is a technical business consultant for manufacturing clients. He also has served for one year on the city’s architectural and historic board of review. ∞
