April Trustee Corner- Melissa Augustine

The buzzards are back! I want to express my deep appreciation to the Hinckley Chamber of Commerce for coordinating another successful Buzzard Day celebration. The support of the sponsors, Highland Schools and all the volunteers made the event spectacular.

The comprehensive plan audit process is running smoothly. Helping to guide the process is a steering committee of Hinckley residents who represent a wide range of backgrounds and community demographics. Please see the graphic included in this publication to see where committee members reside.

I have lived in Hinckley Township for 19 years, made it my home, raised my children and worked to serve our community since my arrival. Like you, I care deeply about Hinckley and our future. Every resident is encouraged to participate and share their thoughts for shaping the future of Hinckley through the surveys and meetings. OHM Planning, our consultant, will coordinate language for the comprehensive plan audit based on your responses. The board of trustees will vote on the comprehensive plan language recommendation presented by OHM Planning.

At the March 1meeting, former Trustee Jim Burns spoke about earmarking funds for water in the center of town. The grant that Hinckley received has never been set aside for any purpose nor has any decision been made as to how the funds would be used. Discussion centered around the limited uses of the funding, and that water infrastructure was considered a valid expenditure. Since that time, the use of the funds has expanded. Your current board of trustees will decide how the funds will be utilized once they are received.

The Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony planning is underway. Mark your calendars for Monday, May 30! The parade will leave Our Lady of Grace Church at 9 a.m. and will end at town hall.

Blessings to you and yours. Happy spring! ∞
