Grapevine April 2022

Welcome to springtime in Northeast Ohio! The weather is getting warmer and we have a lot of good work to celebrate in our community. Stewart’s Caring Place announced the retirement of Bath resident Jeannine Marks as the longstanding executive director. This announcement is not the end of her dedication and commitment to Stewart’s Caring Place. She has served as a volunteer and supporter since the organization’s start in 2004 and will continue to champion the organization. Congratulations to Jeannine and thank you for your legacy of service to the community.

Revere High School seniors Rohit Dasanoor and Drake Du scored a 100% on the state Trig-Star competition sponsored by the National Society of Professional Surveyors. Trig-Star is a competition that recognizes and rewards high school students who excel in mathematics, particularly trigonometry, and their teachers. The goal of the program is to demonstrate practical uses for mathematics and bring greater awareness of the surveying profession. The last question of the test always requires a student to find distances and angles on a plot of land.

Only Rohit moved on to the national competition, as first place is awarded to the competitor with the highest score in the shortest amount of time. During the national competition, Rohit answered all questions correctly, becoming the only student to receive two perfect scores.

“Drake and Rohit are two of the best math students that I have ever had, and I have taught for over thirty years,” said Revere math teacher, Joanne Gillette.

Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio President and Survey Project Supervisor for Akron, Paul Couch, P.S., was on hand to present Rohit and Gillette their Richard E. Lomax National Trig-Star Award for the top spot in the country and also recognize Drake for his tremendous achievement.

Rohit is the son of Sridhar and Mallika Dasanoor and Drake is the son of Mike and Julie Du.

Women in Touch with Akron’s Needs welcomed thousands of guests to their annual French Market, a juried arts and crafts show with proceeds donated to nonprofits in the Greater Akron and Summit County community through grants from the organization’s community projects fund.
