Independence notified that CVC league games postponed until Jan. 4

As Independence Local Schools prepares for the winter sports season, the district said it was notified that Chagrin Valley Conference league games will be postponed until Jan. 4.

Independence High School and Middle School will be able to play schools within the CVC before Jan. 4, but those contests will not count as official league games. IHS and IMS will be able to play non-conference opponents during this time. Schedules will be revised accordingly, and game updates will be sent out through coaches.

Gov. Mike DeWine stated on Nov. 24 that all schools should eliminate fans or significantly restrict attendance through the end of 2020. Independence will allow parents and immediate family members only at all home games until a new recommendation is provided by the governor, county board of health or OHSAA. Attendance rules at away venues will be communicated through coaches.

Some additional measures instituted by Independence to help keep athletes, coaches, game-day personnel, custodians and fans safe and healthy include: player benches will be spread out; the first row of the bleachers will be used as a player bench; fans must sit in designated seats that are spaced a minimum of 6 feet apart; and no concessions will be sold at winter games.
