New figure skating team competes in statewide competition

The inaugural Brecksville-Broadview Heights figure skating team competed at the Ohio High School Team Figure Skating Championships Feb. 9-10 in Shaker Heights. The Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School-affiliated club is comprised of three students, all freshmen: Mackenzie Gray, Laney Karpowicz and Chloe O’Brien.

O’Brien placed first in preliminary compulsory moves, third in preliminary free skate and ninth in showcase. Gray placed second in pre-preliminary free skate and pre-preliminary compulsory moves. Karpowicz placed fourth in high beginner compulsory moves and fifth in showcase.

The competition will be held annually and is sanctioned by the United States Figure Skating Association and allows high school figure skaters to compete in a team environment.
